My name is Lonny Morgan . I began tattooing out of my North Carolina basement Jan. 2010. I have no prior art training as I did music for years before picking up a machine. During the time of owning my own recording studio a couple of my buddies asked if would tattoo them and of course my response was, "tattoo you with what?" Two weeks later they came to my studio with kit that they had purchased online. I did a couple of horrible tattoos on them and told them I was going back to music. They gave me the kit and told me to keep it... to practice. Well, that kit went in the attic and I went back to producing etc. Years later I had burnt out / turned off on my music career and sold my studio. Being a project driven person I began to get bored. I remembered all of the sudden that there was a tattoo kit in the attic. So, I pulled it down and toyed with it a bit. I began to feel a passion ignite for it which led to me researching and educating myself. After four months of tattooing in my basement I decided I wanted out of North Carolina so I took my portfolio down to Florida to see if I could get a job... I figured palm trees, beaches, awesome weather - why not give it a shot. I was hired into a couple of shops where I didn't feel I was in a strong learning environment. Then when I was about to give up on Florida I was hired to work at a solid shop. The artists in this shop were good - I mean I felt nervous to be there. At that point I wasn't even drawing yet. I was pushed to draw & paint. I mean I had to push myself to try and catch up with these guys. I can look back and see how far I have come but I can also look ahead and see how far I have to go... that's the beauty of tattooing and art in general... you never stop learning... there is always room for growth... I still feel like I am nothing more than a rookie who is playing catch up.
